What does an energy audit actually cover?
A typical audit reviews your facility's electrical distribution system, load patterns, power factor, harmonics, and equipment efficiency — measuring where energy is being used, where it's being wasted, and where consumption doesn't match what the load should actually require. It usually results in a report with prioritized recommendations, ranging from no-cost operational changes to capital equipment upgrades.
What are the signs you need one sooner?
Rising electricity bills without a corresponding increase in production or occupancy, frequent low power-factor penalties from your utility, unusually warm panels or cables, or equipment that trips more often than it used to are all worth investigating with an audit rather than waiting for the next scheduled cycle.
Preliminary vs. detailed audits
A preliminary (or walk-through) audit is a faster, lower-cost review that flags obvious issues and decides whether a full audit is worthwhile. A detailed audit involves actual metering and data logging over a period of time, giving a far more precise picture of where energy — and money — is actually going.
